The police have traditionally had good links with schools covering things from cycle proficiency and road safety, through to inputs to children and young people about drug misuse and the law about assaults and offensive weapons.
The way Essex Police officers work with schools is always being looked at to make sure that we are working in the most effective way to reduce crime and disorder, provide information and assistance and to build and strengthen relationships with communities in Essex. The Police are there to serve the community and keep people safe and it is important that we have the trust and confidence of all parts of the community in Essex, a big proportion of which is made up of children and young people. Children and young people are the citizens of the future.
Essex Police has around 30 schools officers working in particular secondary schools within our area, known as Safer School Partnership officers. There are also a number of dedicated PCSOs. Their job is to focus a policing service on a particular school and its surrounding community, becoming an important local point of contact. At primary level, we have dedicated Community Policing Team officers often get involved with their local schools to provide a police link. Police officers are involved in lots of activities and initiatives with schools, such as the 2SMART roadshows and in Crucial Crew events, among many others.
