Violence covers a huge range of offences from harassment by verbal abuse to murder. It can be directed towards people or property but we tend to use the word violence to describe personal aggression towards another person or other people. Violence can take place anywhere; in the street or other public places, in schools, in peoples own homes, etc. There are often links to drunkenness and other substance misuse, but this is not always the case and violence can result from frustration about not getting your own way, not being listened to or even because your favourite team lost a match. Violence can happen on the spur of the moment or it can be planned in advance. All offences involving violence can lead to prison depending how serious the offence is.
